A man faces drug charges after being accused of smoking Marijuana during a JetBlue flight to Newark on Monday.

Adam Blumenkranz, 43, claimed he had the drug for medicinal purposes, according to airport police.

Members of the cabin crew on flight 510 from Fort Luaderdale, Florida, apparently said they became suspicious when the accused passenger dropped a small, clear plastic bag in the cabin.

As the plane made its approach to Newark Liberty International Airport, the crew claim the man entered the passenger toilets – a strong smell of Marijuana shortly followed.

According to NJ.com, Blumenkranz told police who met him at the gate in Terminal A that he was permitted to use marijuana for medical reasons, and produced a bag of marijuana and a glass pipe for smoking it, prompting his arrest.

Blumenkranz was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and released.
