Ryanair reports record profits as O’Leary gets richer

It’s hoped that an impressive financial performance from Ryanair signals job security for thousands of cabin crew, pilots and airline support staff at the budget airline over the next few years. Ryanair currently employs 8,500 people and is hoping to add 1,000 staff this year.
Ryanair has reported a record €503m profit for the year to the end of March 2012, which is a 25% increase on last year. This news comes despite higher fuel costs hitting the airline. However the low-frills airline has forecast lower annual profits of between €400m and € 440m for the next trading

New training institute for Jet2 cabin crew

Low cost airline Jet2 has announced that it has joined up with Newcastle College to train its cabin crew.
More than 200 employees each year will undertake tailored training with Jet2, which results in them achieving a minimum qualification of NVQ level two.

An introductory training programme has also been developed for seasonal staff

Cabin Crew to assist in human trafficking clamp-down

Virgin Atlantic is the first airline in the UK to train its Cabin Crew to spot and report signs of human trafficking on its flights.
The staff were provided with special means of identifying those who may be engaged in trafficking and their potential victims and how to report them to the authorities before arrival in the UK – so far the scheme has been dubbed as a big success.
