BA steward put hoax bomb threat on toilet door mid-flight

A British Airways cabin crew member faces a custodial sentence after admitting leaving a hoax bomb warning on an airliner’s lavatory door mid-flight. He is due to be sentenced next month.
The air steward, Mathew Davis, aged 22 and from Crawley, West Sussex, was on a Tokyo to London flight in February when he scrawled the message saying there was a live bomb on board due to explode at 4pm.

Ryanair flight attendant falls out of aircraft

A female member of Ryanair cabin crew was treated for head injuries last week after falling three meters from the plane’s exit door. According to The Local the incident happened while the plane was getting ready for take-off at Gothenburg City Airport in Sweden.

Brits arrested for ‘bomb scare’ on Thomas Cook Tenerife flight

Two British passengers on board a Thomas Cook flight caused an unnecessary bomb scare by telling cabin crew they had an explosive device in their hand luggage, according to a story in the Daily Mail. The aircraft was carrying about 200 passengers and was given priority to land due to concerns about the claim.
The incident on May 10 took place on a flight from Manchester to Tenerife. It is thought the pair – who have been named as Airam Paul Jerus, and Nathan Levi Trippier – had been drinking prior to the flight, although this has yet to be confirmed.

Failed Russian SuperJet demo flight kills 44 in Indonesia

A Russian Sukhoi SuperJet with 44 people on board crashed into a volcano in Indonesia last Wednesday, with all those on board now presumed dead. Foggy weather conditions and the dense jungle environment meant it has been difficult to examine the crash site and retrieve the remains of those on board. The 44 people on board included flight crew, as well as businessmen and Russian envoys.

Thomas Cook has been thrown a financial lifeline by its banks, which could save hundreds of head office travel job.
Peterborough-based Thomas Cook has secured a three-year deal with around 17 banks, providing a £1.4 billion loan to the travel giant, providing much-needed financial stability.

Air China given warm welcome at Gatwick

This week Gatwick Airport welcomed the arrival of Air China - the flag carrier for the People‘s Republic of China. Air China is to expand its London network, by providing a non-stop service from Gatwick to Beijing International Airport four times a week. This is a good development for Gatwick which wants to be seen as a major player on the global air travel map. It could have a positive impact on cabin crew jobs and create more airline support jobs on the ground.

Jet2.com has announced plans to create 100 jobs at East Midlands Airport. The UK airline is taking over eight routes dropped by bmibaby which is closing in September 2012.
Leeds-based Jet2 plans to employ some of the bmibaby staff which is great news for cabin crew and ground staff affected by the dropping of bmibaby, following its sale to International Airlines Group (IAG) by Germany's Lufthansa last month.
