#1  "You Will Be Contacted" Status on April 18th  Posted 26/04/2012 at 03:26
Hey everyone,

I have been reading online that a lot of us got the famous red message on April 18th, and yet no phonecall to date. This would mark the 8th day for this.
This group is just to keep in touch to see when we will get the call. I'm thinking a lot of us will have the same DOJ as well. So, keep in touch everyone!
=)

Good luck girls.
If I don't hear anything from them by next week Tuesday which would mark my 6 weeks - I shall first email and if they don't respond to that I shall call them! =)
Positive energy all around!

Theres a backlog in Dubai because Emirates have been recruiting heavily lately (In the time I've been working for emirates, I've never known there to be so many new starts as there has been lately!) so its taking them a bit longer than usual to get back to people as there are so many people to call! Dont worry though guys, no news is good news and like I said they are taking on a lot of people right now so I think you guys have a higher chance of getting in than someone who was interviewed say 6 months ago.

Try not to stress, even though I remember how hard it was when I was waiting for my call, staring at my phone constantly and waking up in the middle of the night and not able to get back to sleep til I'd checked my emails

The thing is, the longer you wait, the more it means to you when that call does come

I mean we all have the You will be contacted status....and I used to hear that it took them 2-3 days max to contact and now 10-14 days lately!
I know being patient is always good, because then you value what you get later on more!

Out of curiousity though, how much do you love working with Emirates?
What are some pros and cons?
And I have a question....can we do degree programs at the Emirates Aviation College whilst working as CC? I would really be interested in doing that....

As far as I know its not possible to do a degree while working as crew, but it might be possible if you want to do a post-grad? Not sure though, sorry.

I still love Emirates, for every one bad point I can think of at least 5 good points. The cons are

The jetlag,

Some of the layovers could be longer (my friends think I've travelled the world and sometimes ask me about random landmarks etc in cities emirates fly to, but really on some of the layovers you dont see too much other than the airport and hotel),

the passengers can be very rude, I dont want to say which country but there is one that everyone dreads because the culture there means they think they are above anyone providing a service to them ie waitresses, cabin crew etc and can be really rude, to the point of being abusive. But you have to smile and keep your "emirates face" on.

Homesickness is a problem for a lot of people

I'm not sure how it would be in Canada, but I'm from the UK, and there is a bit of worry at the back of the mind about what would happen if I went home after my contract. I will have lost nearly all of the entitlements I had before I left (like free education if I wanted to go back to uni) because I've been living out of the country for 3 years.

I have my days when I get frustrated at being part of the emirates machine, being told how to colour my hair etc gets to me a little bit if I'm having a bad day

But I wouldnt give it up for the world. I LOVE Dubai. It was a major decision maker for me when I was choosing between Emirates and another airline based in the UK. I love the culture, the diversity, I love that its a major city but has some of the most beautiful beaches around.

Obviously the travel and getting to go to countries I never would have seen otherwise is one of the biggest reasons anyone becomes cabin crew

The package emirates give is really good, accommodation, transport, healthcare etc

The money is really good

Its easy to get promoted. Most people are promoted to business class after about a year of joining emirates.

Overall its an amazing experience, and I think living and working in a different country is an experience everyone should have.
