Jet2 Cabin Crew query in the Jet2 forum Posted:  03/08/2010 at 01:33
Sorry moc02jet2, what do you mean by people who are in a far better position than myself? Surely you don't mean someone who workes for Jet2. Come on guys. Monarch has been going for over 40 years and does have a strict recruitment process. Not like crappy who fly well out dated 737 and 757s. Monarch has only got 3 757s left in the fleet coz we are getting the newer and more efficient A321. So please don't tell me that Jet2 is better than Monarch. Thats the funniest thing iv ever heard. I think some people would like to believe that Monarch are in trouble because they have had the knock back from them at some point, hence ending up at Jet2 with the rest of the knock back's.

Monarch Winter Recruitment? in the Monarch Airlines forum Posted:  20/09/2010 at 04:48

Honestly, I hear this rubbish day in day out about Monarch getting grants from the government.  Well, maybe they do get some kind of subsidy for taking on new starters, but I doubt very much if this covers even the cost of uniform, let alone the amount it costs to pay people for 6 weeks of training and take Instructors off line to do the training.

Tell me exactly what this grant you talk about is, tell me how much it is and when it is paid.  I doubt you can give me any detail at all because this is a big myth at Monarch about massive grants the company gets to employ people.  Small subsidy perhaps, massive money making scheme - I think not!

Funny how you know Monarch was in profit 2 weeks after the ash cloud crisis?  Monarch is privately owned and not a publicly listed company and doesn't give any details about its finances, so just how do you know about its state of finances when nobody else does?

As it happens, my guess (based on given evidence of frequency of flights) that Monarch would be taking people on in LGW has transpired to be true!  30 contracts which are 8/4 with 20 duties over winter.  A further 10 such contracts are also available at BHX.  Sadly, for those applying as new entrants, these contracts will be offered to existing fixed-term crew only.

What is better,Monarch or Thomas Cook? in the Monarch Airlines forum Posted:  26/01/2010 at 00:19

you are right to a point.  however i would say that a lot of temps are misled when they apply for the job at Monarch, many other charter airlines make it very clear when their employment starts and ends.

do you honestly think that when people go for the interview and discover they are successful in their application that they expect to be in a hold pool for so long?  the above posts would suggest not.

holiday pay, sickness pay etc is this explained at interview Monarch?

you say you were at Monarch for 8 months,  the last few years contracts given AND SIGNED by new crew, before they strated employment, were for 6 months starting in May/April and finishing 31st Oct, your contract was extended then?

were you told you were going to get re-entry, were you told you would be given a permanant contract????  do you see the point im trying to make here?....a bit difficult to plan a life right?

yes the economy is bad, but as Off My Trolley says 'there are other airlines out there' and lets hope they dont become like Monarch, as when some of you on this site would like too buy a house, get a loan, heaven forbid get sick etc, then im afraid its not going to be possible on a temp contract.
