#2  Direct entry CSS/FSM  Posted 09/04/2019 at 14:02
Hi there,

I worked for Virgin as my first ever flying job, left because I was doing a 3-4 hour commute but I really miss being onboard with them! I moved on to a charter airline operating closer to home and the past 3 years I have been in the role of cabin manager which is the equivilant of a VS FSM.

I was therefore wondering do VS only recruit CSS/FSM internally or do they ever recruit them externally as direct entry?

Thanks to anyone who gets back to me :) xxx

They definitely don't I'm afraid.. and doubt they ever will.

Internal promotion is very slow, and pretty difficult to get. I know nobody with less then 4 years service to be promoted to CSS, never mind FSM.

Hi FlyingWithWings93

As the others have said, VAA have never recruited direct entry for CSS/FSM.

I'm sure it's an idea that's been discussed, but with such a huge group of CC (included demoted SCC), they have too much talent within their ranks for the need to look externally.

As you probably remember, promotion within VAA is generally quite slow. There are crew here who have been in rank for 10 years + who are still yet to be promoted.

However if you did come back, the most recent recruitment drive for CSS had a 2 years in rank policy. So it would be plausible for you to work as cabin crew for 2 years before the possibility of a promotion to CSS became obtainable.

Hope this helps!
