I am using carmen bidding for the first time this month...

I just want to clarify if i'm bidding correctly.

Can i make more than one bid for one day or one period, but give a descending order of preference? Or does carmen just look at your highest bid for that day or period and ignores the rest?

Eg. Could i put, 10th sept, 3 day trip, BOS 200pts, then ORD 195 pts, then LAX 190 pts etc and maybe end with no specified route as my lowest bid?

Thank you

Yes you can do that. Best to make a bit more differentiation between the amounts bid though. I don't think just a 5 point difference is enough for the machine to differentiate between.

There are loads of different ways to bid and no two people seem to bid the same way.

Generally keeping your bid simple is best. When you bid you are not in competition with anyone else, you are just showing the bid system what your priorities are. So the more you want something the higher the points you need to give it.

It works on trying to give you at least 60% of your bid with the proviso that it does need to be a realistic expectation. So in simple terms:-

if you give one trip 200 points. =. 200
But also 4 other trips 100 each. =. 400

You could end up just getting the trips you gave 100 each to as they total 60% of your bid and not the 200 point trip. Basically it is very complicated I personally give a lot of trips I would equally like very high scores each and then much lower scores like 50 or 30 to other more generic choices just in case I dont get my highest choices but as I said everyone seems to have different methods. Some keep it very simple and some like me give loads of different options.

However from month to month it can vary even when you enter the same bid, so it is a bit of a lottery.
Try a few different methods and see how it goes.
Good luck.

Thank you for the advice Little Minx.

I will make bigger differentials like you say, and be careful not to outbid my priority preference!

I think it will be "trial and error" for the first few months whilst i get used to it....

Thanks.
