Can I go on Emirates OD if I received DOJ for QA?

Hello everyone, I have one question/doubt.

I will explain briefly. Since I have never been on a open day or assessment day before for any airline company and I wanted to see how it is, I went on Qatar open day and after one month I received DOJ for Qatar. But my wish was and still is to work for Emirates. At the end of this month Emirates has open day in the neighbor country and I want to go.

So my question is can I go on Emirates open day if I received a DOJ for Qatar? Is there any possibility for both companies to find out and at the end to get a rejection from both companies?

I want to try for Emirates too but I am scared because on the other hand I have a great opportunity for Qatar. I am not sure if you have some information about my questions, but I am looking forward hearing answers from everyone. Thank you in advance.

Well done on getting your DOJ with Qatar. You can apply for other airlines, that is not an issue... But I would say, don't rely on getting a getting a position with EK and turn down the QR one - I think that would be a huge risk and you'd be disappointed... Realistically, cabin crew jobs are very hard to get and there are a lot of unknown factors (recruitment requirements) so the chances of also being offered a position as well at EK are quite slim, although not impossible. Of course, you still have time to attend the OD if it's before your DOJ but I wouldn't put all your hopes into EK when you already have a job offer.

Let's assume you get selected for EK and you get terminated, in that situation you will not only lose the possibility to rejoin EK, but also to join QR as you turned down their offer after getting the DOJ. So I advise you to take this offer with QR. Wish you all the best!

Firstly I want to thank you both for the answers. And yes, the EK open day is around one month before my DOJ for QA. I don't have any expectations form EK open day I just want to go and see how it turns at the end, since my wish was to work for them and as I said before I have never applied for EK this will be my first time if I decide to go. Of-course, I won't turn down QA because I know how hard is to get this job, and this is my dream job.

Also, I want to explain that my doubt started when I was reading information on the internet and watching a lot YouTube videos and there are a lot EK You Tubers and a lot of information about the benefits that you get if you work for them and a lot of them are really satisfied. On the other hand there are not many QA You Tubers and information about this company and almost every video that I have watched was from somebody complaining about QA, so when I go there I don't want to get disappointment from the conditions or treatment etc..

So If you have any relevant information about QA can you please shear it or sent it to me. Thank you both in advance.

Once you join QR there is no going back.

Firstly allow me to explain to you several rules and regulations that we have that I think would help you make a decision.

Allow me to start with the fact that I am a CC with QR and currently trying desperately to join EK. Let this sink in for a moment. Now back to the rules...

1. You gonna sign a contract that forces you to basically remain here for 2 years otherwise in case you wanna leave you will pay the company 2300€ in your hard earned cash or face legal issues with the country.
2. A service bond of 350 riyals per month is in affect once you land in Doha, this bond lasts for 2 years.
3. QR does not have a training college or facility like EK does, therefore all training is conducted at the companies headquarter, a 9 story 20 years old building where the CEO is actively staying, this CEO actively visits the classrooms located at the 6th floor and most of the time checks the crew and fires the ones who are not up to his likings ( hair style, the way you sit, the way your hat was put on the table etc etc) think of it of more like a military camp in pyong yang.
4. Smocking is prohibited and will result in termination (crew report each other, your friend or gf or bf might snap a pic of you during a party and use it against after many years, this is the culture at QR because crew believe they get rewarded for reporting)
5. Using your phone while on uniform is prohibited (termination as well)
6. A curfew is imposed from 4am to 7am everyday including your off days and annual leave days
7. A minimum rest of 12 hours is imposed as well this starts from your pick up time of the next duty, does not matter if it’s a flight or training or even a US crew visa appointment. It also applies during your off days.
8. For 6 &7 the company pretty much has NFC scanners on every single faculty including accommodations, they record your IN/OUT every-time and routinely run data base checks to catch the ones who do breach the 6 & 7 rules.
9. QR is the lowest paying major airline in the Middle East, per hour here is 50 riyals and basic 4200 riyals, compared to EK where per hour is 61.25 AED, that’s about 60 riyals.
10. QR crew fly a minimum of 105 hours per month, that’s a lot of hours which result in minimum days off and a hectic roster operation.
11. QR main money making sectors are Asia and Indian subcontinent, so do expect to fly a lot to these locations.
12. Layover times and allowances have been reduced drastically since the time I got here and crew constantly complain about that.
13. QR operates a narrow body fleet as well (A319-320-321) this is very important because if you ask any crew who operates with a full service airline they will tell you that full service does not work onboard a small aircraft mainly because of space. I can’t explain you to get the full picture but believe me, it sucks.
14. QR crew are not allowed to take pictures nor videos while on uniform, that’s why we almost have zero crew on social media compared to emirates crew who, some of them are very famous on Instagram. This comes mainly that the airlines has a department specialist that run checks on social media to catch crew who post while on inform, mainly because the airlines considers a “bikini picture” bad advertising.
15. Tattoos are prohibited, anywhere... They will strip you naked during medicals just for this.
16. Most of the accommodations are very old, basic amenities are pretty unserviceable.
17. QR focuses on their image with skytrax and customers but totally ignores the employees, they can do anything for their customers at the cost of the crew. You gonna be just another staff number.
18. Buddy pass: 5 friends per year to list, 10 tickets to total.
19. No one can visit you in your accommodation unless they hold a resident permit of Qatar.
20. Visits to your accommodation are only allowed from 7am till 10pm.
21. Accommodations are not mixed gender. Male and females have separate buildings and most of the time separate neighborhoods.
22. You can’t have alcohol in your accommodation hence buying alcohol is limited to people who have an alcohol permit which is hard to obtain.
23. We have grooming checks during briefings before every flight, some ladies they call them “grooming officers” yeah you heard me right, they check you and constantly screw you with comments, pretty much anything that makes you look good shouldn’t be. Forget if you have long hair or a hair that looks stylish (male), it should be cut, pretty much military hair cuts.
24. Uniforms are not properly fitted to your body shape; everything should be loose, feels like a bag.
25. You need a permission to get married and in most cases you get fired for asking.
26. Babies are a big no no.

These are the most to list, there are more but I don’t have time.

Another thing is if you are more into diversity and culture. And I mean no offense to anyone. This airline is pretty much run by Indians. They proprieties their people first.
Crew population consists of 60% Asians and 30% Indian sub continent, the remaining 10% is mainly Eastern Europeans and few Arabic speakers but these Arabic speakers their numbers are shrinking because they resign and move to EK and etihad.
It’s not diverse here, sometimes it feels like your are working for Thai airways or Philippines airlines not Qatar airways, onboard; those majority crew speak their own language (as you know how Indian subcontinent citizens pretty much understand each other because the language is Hindu and same applies in Asia, most of them understand some form of common ground language, but over here most Asian crew are from Philippines-Thailand and Korea, they even form monopolies against each other), they understand each other, this creates a monopoly which can affect you directly sometimes, to emphasize on that let me explain you that for example a Qr 380 has 4 supervisors, 2 Cabin managers and 2 cabin seniors, 99% of the time 3 out of 4 end up from the same country or same ethnicity or region. And I have proof of that. Imagine working with 3 supervisors who have same culture and same language and understanding for a 15 hours flight, it gets ugly sometimes because if you have an issue, minor or major and it’s not your fault or partially your fault, instead of receiving support, you will be screwed and fired because those supervisors form a monopoly against you.
And + if you are like me, I prefer working with different nations onboard, this is how I have fun and develop. Believe me, since I joined here I feel my English went downhill just because of who I fly with, English is not used and if used, you wonder where these people learned it.

QR recruitment process is a joke, the English exam is a joke, my 10 year old sister can do it. They tend to take crew who are not visually appealing and have no previous experience (females) for male they don’t care. Just take a look at QR crew and compare them, I’m being brutally honest here and I don’t like to use filters, I say it how it is.

It saddens me everyday when I fly with new crew fresh out of abinito and there faces look like they got in a mouse trap. Constant questions and complaints, nobody is happy.

Once every month you will fly with what they call “checkers” super senior crew above CC managers whom their main role is to make your flight more miserable and most cases cause you a warning letter or something more.

Lastly let’s not all forget that QR has never been in profit for the past 5 years. Not even operating breakeven. Their main source of money is the government that’s why they are in deep waters with so many countries and that’s why we only fly to 163 destinations compared to EK...
Last year they were down 600 million dollars ++++ and they are in denial about that. Watch all interviews on YouTube of the CEO and you will observe that all he says is “we are number one” “we are the best” but pardon me, if you are number 1 in what you do but your business record is tanking, isn’t that proof of failure? I mean, if you are ready to do everything for your customer but in the other hand you are not making any money and making your staff unhappy but same time losing a cr*p load of money, isn’t that a doomsday scenario? Just wait for it folks, QR is going down faster than an F1 race car down a hill.

We have a high rate of resignation that the office now forced a quota, only 20 people per day can resign, which resulted in crew being put on a waiting list. So imagine you want to leave but you can’t haha so what you gonna do? Leave on your own? Naaaaah mate, Qatar has a system where you need an exit permit issued before leaving the country, so dream about it getting approved. Now crew are forced to just jump ship, land in a layover back home and never return, leaving everything behind.

I also would like to high light the fact that QR was one of the last airlines to stop operating to China during the corona outbreak. EK was first and also EK stoped flying to Korea, guess what, we still fly daily to Korea as of today. QR cares about the image rather than safety of the crew, we are not allowed to use face masks or gloves onboard while we are still flying to Coronavirus hotbeds around the world, just take Korea for example. EK stoped flying there right, but we are flying and no protective measures. It’s a big F you to our faces.

This post may probably get me fired but what should be done is done now.

Finally watch this https://youtu.be/ReRK3WEh69c and maybe watch all of his videos, he is an ex crew with QR that resigned and dedicated his time to spreading the truth. Maybe if what I said is unbelievable for many here, maybe he can change your mind.

Take care and good luck.
