Does anyone have any insight on whether airlines will reject a candidate with type 2 diabetes? Three months ago I went some medical tests and my blood sugars were dangerously close to the diagnoses threshold for t2 diabetes. I will undergo soon a new round of tests to see if my blood sugars have improved, and while I still hope for the best, I need to prepare for the worst. I know that diabetes is not the end of the world and is mostly manageable, but this is my dream job and it would be very sad to lose it because of something mostly out of my control. My doctors say that at this point it is possible for me to lower my blood sugars only with lifestyle changes. The medical requirements of Emirates are ambigously written, they read "Diabetes or impairment of glucose tolerance AND any UNCONTROLLED endocrine disease are unacceptable", so it is not clear whether this means:
a) Diabetes, whether well-controlled or not, and any other uncontrolled endocrine disease are unacceptable
or
b) Only uncontrolled diabetes is unacceptable, as is any other uncontrolled endocrine condition.
Also, while diabetes is largely preventable with lifestyle changes, when there's a genetic predisposition to it (which is my case, as it runs in both sides of my family), unfortunately it can develop in spite of said changes, which means I might end up developing it while on the job. Would this cause me trouble? Would I lose my job?
Does anyone have any insight or experience with this issue? Also, does anyone know if smaller airlines (Flydubai, Air Arabia, those are the only ones I can apply to besides the big 3 since I'm a male) are more lenient in this regard?
Thank you very much and have a nice day!
