Hi,
Im on maternity leave at the mo at bmi, so when I return to work, it will be to eurofleet. I'd prefer to work at Gatwick, do you think it could be possible to do a fleet transfer? if so, do you give up your pay, part time etc?
Thanks!

We no longer transfer between LHR and LGW and former bmi crew are being TUPE'd across to Eurofleet so have to remain on Eurofleet.
LGW is presently open internally for all BA employees to apply for. |

ahh I see, yes I know we're being tupe'd lol, just didn't realise you no longer do fleet transfers.
So if they are still recruiting internally I could apply for it in the same way I could apply for MF further down the line. We aren't bound to EF forever are we??!
Thanks Baby Jack, you are soo helpful! At home on mat leave, and not part of the union, I get barely any info!

Hi
I was just wondering whether anyone has any updates about LGW and whether there is a possibility of employment for those patiently (or at least trying to be patient) in the hold pool?
I know that those who were in the first few groups from this year are nearing the end of their 7 month temporary contracts. Have there been opportunities for those to become permanent or extend their contracts? The reason I'm asking is that during our interview they did mention the possibility of us becoming permanent should we successfully pass our probation, sickness levels etc etc and I was wondering whether that really was a possibility. I just want to have a realistic idea of what may happen after a short term contract - I appreciate that nothing is guaranteed and various circumstances can change things.
I know that you may not be able to answer the above for various reasons but if you can, I (and I'm sure others on here) would be very grateful!
Also I'm assuming that no one else has heard anything from BA recently - it seems to have gone a little quiet at the moment.
While I'm on here, I also wanted to say a big thank you to those who have already helped us in the hold pool! |

Knowing BA very well it seems that they haven't changed their inefficiency in the recruitment department.Very unfortunate for such a great company. But to me it seemed obvious to ask people on the hold pool if they would accept permanent positions MF so it would reduce the costs of recruiting again. They have done it for years and nobody inside can explain to me why is it done that way when various departments including Inflight services are fighting the company agains't some cost saving measures.
It angers me so much when you are up for a job and the institutions leaves you hanging with no answer nor explanations as to what they plan to do.
I've worked for BA as crew for a long time, left to study and applied back, offered the job and now on the limbo with you guys, and I know for a fact that LGW is under staffed, people that I know working very hard at the mo.Then they are offering part time to those high earners and offering the temps to stay on,the temps are getting the good money making trips as well.At this point,I just gave up.....I wish you all the best of luck, hopefully you'll hear soon!x |

| Thanks lgw29. Hopefully we will hear something in the next few months once they have a better idea of their staffing needs. |

That's ok. I just thought that all of us in the hold pool where probably thinking the same so thought I would ask.
Hopefully we will hear from BA soon - it's been a long time waiting but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end. It's just difficult as you can't really plan anything just in case! |

As you say Rapha you left and lots of things have changed. LGW is now an independant business unit and conducts its own interviews for positions using the criteria it wishes. Lasy year the chosen path at LGW was for 7 month temporary contracts. MF was for permanent positions. As you know LGW is going through a massive restructure with certain parts of the business moving to other companies and naturally some people wish to stay and continue to work for us but are exploring new areas such as crew hence why recruitment is ongoing for internal colleagues at LGW. We dont recruit for a specific number as that number has to be fluid due to people chosing to leave, take part time, go on maternity, return from maternity, long term sickness etc etc. A standard is set and those who meet the standard are advised of their success in passing the interview for the position and contract type they have applied. Resources available determine the number of new entrant courses and people advised accordingly of start dates. For those unable to be coursed then they are placed in a holding pool which is actioned once courses are available. At LHR the delivery dates for new aircraft has slipped and they are going from having say 14 crew on a B747 to 22 on an A380 so opportunities will become available once the deliveries are confirmed. The integration of more than 600 crew along with lots of new routes has also meant a need for getting these crew trained up straight away and to their chosen fleet etc. Part time is continually on offer but nobody knows how many people will want it and when. Under the circumstances the team do a great job and also maintain their flying roles. |
